今年是Ingres项目在Berkeley开始30周年，今天在Soda Hall参加了一个当年大佬们的重聚活动，见到Database界泰斗若干，包括Michael Stonebraker, Gene Wang, Jim Gray等等。一些有意思的语录：

 

- Mike Stonebraker: Started Ingres because: 1) needed a tenure, 2) PhD topic sucked, 3) The previous funded project would never succeed

- Mike Stonebraker: What goes around comes around. 30 years ago, Ingres (with System R) changed the world with the "one-size fit all" RDBMS model. Now this model is clapsing. We will again see K different data models and systems because the specialized system will "beat the pants of RDBMS down" by 10-100 fold.

- Gene Wang: Observation for students choosing careers: If you choose a hardware career, expect fast changes and fast obsoletion; If you choose a software career, expect slow process. After 50 years, large software projects still always delay or fail.

 

 

 

昨天晚上刚看了Garfield 2，今天就吃Lasagna，太搞笑了，哈哈哈哈。
